Smoking Cessation Trust Management Services L3C
In 2011, a class action lawsuit judgment ordered certain tobacco companies to fund a 10-year smoking cessation program to benefit more than 200,000 Louisiana smokers who are members of the plaintiff class (the Scott Class). The funds from this court order were used to create the Smoking Cessation Trust (SCT).
Smoking Cessation Trust in 2015 entered into an (LOA) agreement with UNO to do a collaborative Internship program with Senior's in the UNO "Human Performance and Health Promotion Practicum." SCTMS has completed two separate internships for 2015 & 2016. Several benefits for the intended Interns was to provide new and fresh insight, serve as a mentor, involve them in the community and business world so they can interact with agencies in the community, and involve them in real planning and business strategy sessions. The overall purpose and goal of the internship was to involve and expose these Senior's (Interns) in the health services delivery aspect of our Smoking Cessation program and our relationship with Hospital, Physicians, and Health System around Louisiana. Another goal of the internship was to assist the Interns with Human performance / Human promotion while helping develop the student's educational objectives in coordination with the human performance and health promotion program. Since SCTMS leverages technology to conduct its business operations across a statewide initiative, another core focus of the program was to expose and educate interns on how technology and smart systems can be utilized to streamline the process and improve user experiences while reducing a paper footprint, manual re-work and delayed and inconsistent response which can be found when the process is really on the human factor.
