Coastal Environmental, Inc.

Coastal Environments, Inc. (CEI) is a Baton Rouge-based small business that has provided applied science, cultural resource management (CRM), and planning services since 1967.  The New Orleans branch office specializes in geographic information systems (GIS), near-surface geophysics, airborne remote sensing, marine survey, and all phases of CRM archaeology, as described in the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA), and other regulations.  The facility maintains a variety of geospatial hardware, specialized software, analytical equipment, and an extensive library.  Our clients include the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Louisiana DOTD, the Texas DOT, the Mississippi DOT, the Texas Historical Commission, city/parish governments, private firms, and non-profit organizations.

CEI has worked with the University of New Orleans (UNO) Anthropology Department. Our activities have included GPR survey at the Passebon Cottage site (Orleans Parish), which was the focus of a UNO field school. CEI has also provided training of a UNO graduate student on CEI GPS equipment related to the survey of Holt Cemetery (Orleans Parish) as part of MA thesis work. CEI has employed a UNO student.
